NEXT summer schools
NEXT is the series of summer schools on innovation in sustainable natural resource management and policies in the context of socio-economic transition in Eastern and Central Europe. The concept of the NEXT school is based on the following principles:
- - Intensive research training though moderated field and desctop research in groups
- - Analysis of real-life problems and search for realistic solutions
- - Strong links to the local context and close interaction with stakeholder groups
- - Involvement of multinational and multidisciplinary faculty to ensure out-of-box approaches to known environmental issues, while relience on local knowledge supplied by local experts
The first NEXT school Nature-Based Solutions for Smart Cities was organised in Mahilioŭ (Belarus) in August 15-26, 2018 in cooperation with Belarusian-Russian University hosting the event (here you can find the dedicated web site of the School) and a number of international partners. It attracted over 200 applications from 45 countries, and some 40 students from 18 countries reached Mahilioŭ and participated in the school. Find more details about the school and its outcomes here.
The second NEXT school WIN! Water Innovations - Policy, Management, Research will be organised in Tartu (Estonia) in August 12-23, 2019 in cooperation with Estonian University of Life Sciences hosting the event (here you can find the dedicated web site of the School) and a number of international partners. The third NEXT school ACT! Arctic sustainability is co-organised with St.-Petersburg State University and Pskov State University is St.-Petersburg on August 17-28, 2020. Due to restrictions related to the outbreak of the novell coronovirus, the school is cancelled and, prelimenery is moved to the summer 2021.
